Brisbane will come to life as the joyous Festival of Chariots returns to the CBD Saturday 9th May!
May 9, 2015 @ 11:45 am - 4:00 pmFree
The world’s oldest street parade will bring the CBD to life as The Festival of Chariots returns to Brisbane with its vibrant street parade followed by a free festival in King George Square featuring live music, stalls and free vegetarian food.
This vibrant festival is an opportunity for the people of Brisbane to experience and connect with the unique and beautiful Hare Krishna culture.
“Everyone is invited to join us in pulling a giant wooden chariot through the streets of Brisbane to the accompaniment of joyous Indian-style live music and dancing.” – said festival organiser Dominik Luczak.
The chariots are literally run on people power, with the pulling of the chariot symbolising drawing peace and joy into everyone’s hearts.
The parade will sing and dance its way down Elizabeth Street, Creek Street and Adelaide Street, arriving at King George Square around 11:15am where a colourful cultural festival awaits.
The festival at King George Square has free entry and activities to entertain the whole family, including live music, traditional dances and drama from 11:30am until 4:00pm, as well as henna and face painting, cooking demonstrations, card reading, children’s activities, and an Indian fashion and jewelry boutique.
“I would also like to let all our festival guests know that we’ll be serving delicious free vegetarian food, sponsored by ‘Food For Life’” –Dominik Luczak.
The stage show will be packed with unique cultural experiences: with special guest performers Kadamba Kanana Swami, Sri Prahlada and Carmella Baynie singing sacred chants to Indian beats that will fill your heart with peace while inspiring you to dance.
The Festival of Chariots is an ancient celebration that originated in Puri, India more than 2000 years ago, and today is celebrated all over the world.
The festival was a great success here in Brisbane last year: we created a joyous atmosphere that was enjoyed by thousands.
We’re looking forward to seeing even more people come along this year to help us celebrate our Festival of Chariots.
