YSPN Brisbane Presents: An Evening with Curtis Pitt

Apr 12, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

THE Young Sikh Professionals Network (YSPN) Brisbane cordially invites you to our first marquee event of the year featuring keynote speaker, Curtis Pitt, the current Treasurer of Queensland, and the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Sport.

At 39 years of age Mr Pitt has quickly reached great heights in his career. Sworn into office as State Treasurer in February 2015, Mr Curtis Pitt has overseen the maintenance of a transparent financial ecosystem, whilst implementing holistic policy mechanisms concerning the interests of the Indigenous people of Queensland, and Queensland’s sporting infrastructure. Mr Pitts is additionally renown for dedication to community service, with specific regard to his membership of the Edmonton Lions Club, Gordonvale RSL Citizens Auxiliary and his role as an Auxiliary firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Rescue service.

Mr Pitt will be speaking on his leadership journey and passing on his tips on how to build a successful career. The lessons you can learn will be applicable to anyone seeking to reach the highest positions in the corporate, business or professional world.  There will be an opportunity for Q&A also.

Mr Pitt hails from the rural township of Gordonvale in Far North Queensland where the first Sikhs in Australia migrated over 120 years ago. Mr Pitt has always had a close bond with the local Sikh community in Far North Queensland and has always believed in the contributions that the Sikh community has made for the betterment of our nation.

He was one of the first politicians to appeal for Sikhs to be excused from wearing helmets whilst riding bicycles, as he understood how important and symbolic the turban was for the sikh faith and identity.

Mr Pitt has been part of the launch of several Sikh events (pictured- Launch of Azaad sports and Welfare club), where he has showed his continuous support for the Sikh people in Australia.

Mr Pitt believes in the potential of the Sikh Community in Australia and is ever so encouraging of its youth.
