In July, the Queensland government announced teachers would get two days of extra leave this year “in recognition of the efforts of school-based staff during the COVID-19 health pandemic”.
Schools in remote and rural areas which close earlier will have their pupil-free days on Thursday, December 3 and Friday, December 4.
The “pandemic leave” was gifted to Queensland’s 40,000 teachers after the state government deferred pay rises for the sector.
The Palaszczuk government denied it was a sweetener for the deferral.
Healthcare workers were also awarded the special leave entitlement.
